Two arrests in Paris on suspicion of links to the Brussels bomber

Two people living in the Paris region and allegedly “linked to the perpetrator of the attack” on the 16th in Brussels were brought before a Paris investigative judge this Monday, who will decide whether they will be charged with criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism to commit.

France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) has requested the preventive detention of the two suspects, according to AFP, but has not identified the source of the information.

The investigation “continues to clarify the connection(s)” of the two suspects with Abdesalem Lassoued, a 45-year-old radicalized Tunisian, who killed two Swedes as they traveled to support their national football team.

The attacker, who was the subject of an extradition request from Tunisia more than a year ago, was shot dead by Belgian police the day after the attack, on the 17th.

Following information “transmitted by the Belgian judicial authorities”, the PNAT opened an investigation into the criminal association of terrorist criminals on October 17, 2023.

Last Thursday, four people “probably linked to the perpetrator of the attack” were arrested in Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire and the Paris region, PNAT reported.

There were only two people present at the investigating judge on Monday. The other two were released from police custody.
