Israeli fighter jets have struck “terrorist infrastructure” in Syria after shots were fired from the area into the Israeli-annexed part of the Golan Heights, the Israeli army announced on Sunday.
“Not long ago, in response to yesterday’s (Saturday) attack on the Golan Heights, fighter jets attacked terrorist infrastructures in Syria,” the army said in a short statement.
On Saturday, the military said two projectiles fired from Syria had landed in uninhabited areas of the Golan Heights and rocket warning sirens had sounded in the region.
Israel had already attacked Syria on Friday after a drone from Syria crashed into a school in Eilat (southern Israel).
Israel captured part of the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 Israeli-Arab war before annexing the area in 1981. This annexation is not recognized by the UN.
There were also repeated gun battles on the border between Israel and Lebanon, in a context of war between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas, in the Gaza Strip.
