Economic wars over trade and energy and climate change could, in the coming years, lead to a new world order.
The configuration that this realignment of powers will have is what will be discussed during two days in Lisbon.
At the 5th Lisbon conference, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, world leaders participate in areas such as strategic trends, international payments, energy, and the intersection of the digital world with business.
Fernando Jorge Cardoso, professor at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa and executive director of the Clube de Lisboa, which organizes this conference, anticipates that the key word of this conference will be “power”, but other words such as “war, security or peace”.
In the new world order, it will still be necessary to draw the power of each power, because it seems peaceful that the leadership of the last three decades, of the United States, is in question.
The global and regional candidates are obvious at this point, and China and Russia are obvious candidates.
But Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia do not seem to be comfortable with their current position in international chess.
The fifth conference in Lisbon starts this Thursday, with the presence of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in the opening session, leaving the closing session on Friday in charge of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho.
