Web Summit CEO says ‘sorrow and suffering’ in Israel-Hamas conflict is common for ‘many communities’

Web Summit’s executive chairman (CEO) opined on Wednesday that “the only respectful thing you can say at a time of so much sadness and suffering” such as the conflict between Israel and Hamas is to recognize that these exist “in many communities” .

Katherine Maher commented on her position on the Israel-Hamas conflict during a press conference at the Web Summit, after co-founder and former CEO Paddy Cosgrave resigned from his position over his statements on the issue.

“The only respectful thing to say in a time of so much sadness and suffering is to acknowledge that sadness, suffering and pain exist in many communities around the world.”the CEO said on the third day of the event that ends Thursday.

On the opening night, on Monday, Katherine Maher had declared that everyone has the right to express their opinion on any subject.

“I think it’s important to say that I believe everyone, everywhere, has the right to express their opinion on any topic, including what’s happening in the world.”the CEO said “just two weeks ago,” when she decided to speak at the start of the event about the departure of Web Summit co-founder Paddy Cosgrave from Web Summit’s executive presidency.

When the manager was asked at last Wednesday’s press conference whether he had spoken about freedom of expression, he was compelling: “I talked about freedom of expression, which is another universal right.”

During the conference, Katherine Maher said Paddy Cosgrave resigned from his position because “It started to become a distraction.” for the event’s success, adding that he has left any role in the administration and that he is “not involved in the activities” of the Web Summit or its guidelines.

The CEO of what is considered one of the largest technology summits in the world said the Web Summit “started as an opportunity to connect startups and take their ecosystem to the next level” and “celebrate the work that entrepreneurs do” .

“The Power and Relevance of the Web Summit” It’s about the number of participants and sharing what is being developed by the technology.

“I think they will see great returns in the coming years”He’s ready.

When asked about joining as CEO of the Web Summit two weeks before the start of the event, Katherine Maher emphasized that “the difficult part of this process is fully understanding all the different aspects of such a large event.”

“I was told that you don’t really understand Web Summit until you’re at Web Summit. Luckily for me, that was two weeks after I started, so I learned it on the job.”he concluded.
