Along with 30 other people, the 71-year-old is part of a pilot program called Noon-D, which means “night club” and was created to combat the isolation of older people, which is worsening in Hong Kong. “Rebellious” and a frequent clubber since she was a teenager, Polly Chan tells AFP that she can’t tell her family how unhappy she is.

“The main goal is to alleviate the loneliness and lack of social life of the elderly,” explained Lai Sim-fong.
