The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, highlighted this Monday, in Brussels, that the European Union (EU) “cannot go back” in strengthening workers’ rights.
Speaking at the entrance to a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Employment and Social Policy of the European Union (EU), Ana Mendes Godinho stated that the EU cannot “go back on this path of strengthening workers’ rights, increasing wages , increase capabilities, mobilize resources to respond to the great challenges we face.
On the other hand, Ana Mendes Godinho added that it is necessary to guarantee that “in the European Semester the social dimension is a priority.”
The European Semester, a socio-economic policy coordination process, takes place annually from November to July and was launched, for 2024, on November 21 by the European Commission.
Established in 2011, the European Semester allows EU Member States to coordinate their economic, budgetary and employment policies throughout the year and respond to the economic challenges facing the EU.
