This Monday, the Palestinian Authority asked the international community to put maximum pressure on Israel to extend the ceasefire in the war in Gaza, saying that the situation in the area is catastrophic and that it is necessary to “stop counting bodies”.
“The situation in Gaza is unbearable, a catastrophic situation that we must limit and eliminate. There is no remedy other than ending the war, reaching a ceasefire and trying to extend it to make it permanent. We have to stop counting dead bodies, we have to stop counting dead bodies. We must protect the lives of innocent people, 70% of the dead in Gaza are children and women. This has to stopsaid the head of diplomacy of the Palestinian Authority, Riyad al-Maliki.
The Palestinian minister stressed that during the Israeli operation in Gaza in response to the attack by the terrorist group Hamas on October 7, 14,000 civilians have been killed in the past fifty days in the Palestinian area of the Gaza Strip, which Israel kept under blockade and bombardment. until recently, a few days, when a truce began that ends Monday night.
‘If the war continues tomorrow, the number [de mortos] it will be double because the concentration of the Palestinian population is now double, it is all concentrated in the south of the Gaza Strip,” said Riyad al-Maliki, speaking to journalists in Barcelona, on the sidelines of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) meeting, which brings together those responsible for diplomacy from 43 European and Arab countries.
Riyad al-Maliki said it is “important to extend the ceasefire as long as possible”to save lives and bring humanitarian aid and supplies to Gaza, adding that “everyone is working” to extend the lull in the war, noting that Qatar, the United States, the European Union, Palestine and Spain make this effort.
“Extending the ceasefire means stopping the killings and saving innocent lives. That’s the most important thing. Every possible effort must be made to achieve this,” he said.
For the Palestinian minister, there is “an opportunity today that ends tonight.”
“We have to see how we can put the necessary pressure on the Israeli government so that it does not kill innocent people again and so that we do not continue counting bodies,” he added.
For Riyad al-Maliki, next Monday’s meeting in Barcelona, attended by all the countries of the European Union, the European Commission and sixteen other Mediterranean countries, is also “a great opportunity” to “have a loud and strong voice heard in all parts of the world” and saying “no to war, yes to a ceasefire and an end to the killings of innocent Palestinians.”
