Pope Francis cancels trip to COP28 in Dubai

Pope Francis canceled his trip to Dubai, where he was due to participate in the United Nations-organized COP28 climate summit, on the advice of doctors, the Vatican said on Tuesday.

“Although the Holy Father’s general clinical condition has improved in terms of his flu-like condition and inflammation of the respiratory tract, doctors have asked the Pope not to go ahead with the planned trip to Dubai in the coming days,” the Pope’s spokesman said . Vatican, Matteo Bruni, in a statement.

The pope “accepted the doctors’ request with great regret, so the trip was canceled,” the note also said.

It said the Pope and the Vatican “remain ready” to participate in the “debates that will take place in the coming days” at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. “The methods for this will be defined as soon as possible.”

The United Nations Summit on Climate Change starts on Thursday (November 30) and runs until December 12 in Expo City, Dubai.

Remember, Pope Francis revealed on Sunday that he had a “problem with pneumonia,” forcing him to seek shelter in his home, preventing him from praying the Sunday Angelus in St. Peter’s Square.

On Monday, the Vatican announced that the health of the pope, who suffered from the flu this weekend, was “good and stable”, after confirming a meeting between the pope and the president of Paraguay.

“The pope’s health condition is good and stable, he has no fever and his respiratory condition has clearly improved,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said yesterday.

Although the pope’s clinical condition “has improved”, doctors advised him not to travel to Dubai, where he was due to participate in COP28.
