According to data from this Eurobarometer, the “fight against poverty” is chosen by 36% as the policy that should concern Members of the European Parliament most during the next parliamentary term. 34% expect answers on public health issues. For 29% of voters polled in the Eurobarometer, the priority would be “fighting climate change and helping the economy”.

In Portugal, those who mention the “fight against poverty and the fight against social exclusion” as policies to which they expect a response from Members of the European Parliament are present in greater numbers and represent 56% of the preferences, almost in parallel with the 55 % defending preferences. priority for “supporting the economy and creating jobs”.

More than half of respondents in Portugal, 52%, say they are interested in the 2024 European elections. A total of 57% responded that they would vote.

These figures represent a slight increase compared to the survey conducted four years ago, but are still well below the average for the 27 Member States, with 68% of voters answering that they intend to vote for the European Parliament during the elections to vote. between June 6 and 9 next year (the 9th in Portugal).

The European Parliament emphasizes that “88% of Portuguese say that Portugal has benefited from its accession”, while at European level “72% believe that their country has benefited from its accession to the European Union and 70% believe that the actions of the EU have an impact on your daily life.”

According to the data collected, the positive perception towards the European Union is due to “the EU’s contribution to maintaining peace and strengthening security (34%) and improving cooperation between Member States (34 %)”.

“The image of the EU has remained stable since March 2023: 45% of Europeans have a positive image, 38% a neutral image and 16% a negative image. 66% of Portuguese have a positive image of the European Union and only 6% have a negative image. 88% believe that Portugal has benefited from membership,” the European Parliament points out.
