The son of the president of the United States, Hunter Biden, was accused of having committed nine tax crimes, according to the Associated Press news agency.
Biden’s son, 53, is already accused of three crimes related to the purchase and possession of weapons – illegal when drugs are used -, which he acquired in 2018.
The Republican-controlled US House of Representatives is also investigating Hunter Biden as part of investigations into his father, Joe Biden, for alleged wrongdoing, including influence peddling to benefit family members in business. .
As part of these investigations, the President’s son is expected to testify before Congress on Wednesday, December 13.
In October, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty in a Delaware court to charges that he purchased a gun in 2018 and lied about not using drugs, despite later admitting that he was struggling with crack addiction.
The accusations against the son of the Democratic leader are the result of an investigation opened in 2018, during the administration of Donald Trump (2017-2021), and which the former president himself, now a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, took advantage of to attack Biden, who could face each other in the 2024 elections.
The investigation, which has lasted five years, led this year to an agreement between Hunter Biden’s defense and the prosecution team led by Trump-appointed prosecutor David Weiss, which could have put an end to the case.
However, that pact failed and now Hunter Biden faces a trial that will likely take place in the middle of the campaign for the elections scheduled for November 2024.
