Russia’s prison services (FSIN) admitted on Friday that opposition leader Alexei Navalny had been transferred from the prison where he was serving his sentence, but did not specify what his new destination would be.
“Navalny was transferred from the penitentiary on the territory of the Vladimir region,” the FSIN report said, according to Russian news portal Sota.
The report was read out during the hearing on Navalny’s complaint against the administration of Vladimir Prison Number 6, where he has been held since June 2022.
The FSIN explains that the Russian opposition leader left prison “because of the decision of the Moscow court on August 4,” which included a 19-year prison sentence for extremism.
