Israel says it is willing to negotiate a ceasefire

Israel’s president stated that the country is ready for a new ceasefire in Gaza, mediated by foreign powers, to bring back more hostages from Hamas, but also to allow more humanitarian aid to enter the Palestinian enclave. A proposal that the Islamist group rejects as long as fighting continues.

“Israel is ready for a new humanitarian pause and additional humanitarian assistance to enable the release of hostages,” Isaac Herzog said at a meeting of ambassadors yesterday, his office said, Reuters reported. ‘And the responsibility lies entirely with him [o líder do Hamas, Yahya] Sinwar and the rest of the Hamas leadership,” the Israeli head of state continued.

However, Hamas yesterday rejected the possibility of starting new negotiations on prisoner exchanges while Israeli attacks are ongoing, but the Islamist group was open to proposals to end the war.

“We reaffirm our position to categorically reject any form of negotiations on prisoner exchanges during Israel’s genocidal war,” said Basem Naim, a senior Hamas official, according to the The protector. “However, we are open to any initiative that contributes to ending the aggression against our people and opening passageways to provide aid and assistance to the Palestinian people,” the same official added.

“Unbelievable” situation

The United Nations said yesterday that at least 62 people were killed on Sunday and Monday as a result of heavy attacks on Gaza’s main hospital, Al Shifa. One of the attacks killed 31 people on Sunday, while the second, which took place on Monday, killed five people. at a time when hostilities were concentrated at the entrance to the building and the operating rooms, with the third attack occurring shortly afterwards and killing at least 26 in a nearby area, where internally displaced persons reside.

“I am outraged that there are children recovering from amputations in hospitals and then being murdered in those hospitals,” UNICEF spokesman James Elder said yesterday. Margaret Harris, a spokeswoman for the World Health Organization, described the situation in Gaza hospitals as “unbelievable” and “unconscious,” according to Reuters.

During the last two days of hostilities, which included the fifth blackout in Gaza, bombings and skirmishes were concentrated in Jabalia (north), Gaza City (center) and Khan Yunis (south), according to the UN.
