The Russian journalist Yekaterina Duntsova delivered this Wednesday to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia the registration documentation of the group that supports her candidacy for the Russian presidency in the March presidential elections.
“We have just delivered to the CEC the documentation for the registration of the popular initiative group that supported, on December 17, my candidacy for the Russian presidency,” the candidate said via Telegram.
According to Duntsova, the CEC now has five days to analyze the documents and proceed with the registration.
“I emphasize that there are no reasons to reject the registration. After that, we will be able to open the (bank) account and start a new stage of our campaign, collecting the signatures” necessary for independent candidates, he stated.
The journalist added that signature collection centers will be opened in many cities in the country.
“We will need volunteers to work in these centers. As before, I count on your help. I hope that together we can collect 300 thousand signatures by the end of January,” he stated.
On Sunday, Duntsova, 40, received the support of 521 of the more than 700 participants at an independent congress in Moscow.
The electoral candidate announced her electoral project in November, stating that “in the last ten years, the country has gone in the wrong direction”, a path that leads to “self-destruction.”
Duntsova calls for the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, the introduction of democratic reforms, the release of political prisoners, among other proposals.
According to Russian electoral authorities, in addition to Duntsova, Russian President Vladimir Putin – who will seek reelection – and ultranationalist leader Leonid Slutsky, 13 other candidates presented candidatures to participate in the Russian presidential elections.
The opposition to the Kremlin sees the elections as a referendum on the current war, in which Russia has failed to achieve the objectives it set in February 2022 and which, according to the West, has suffered more than 300,000 casualties.
According to official polls in recent days, 80% of Russians approve of the Putin administration, who has presided over the country since 2000, with an interval of four years (2008-2012) as prime minister.
