Former President of the United States Donald Trump presented an appeal this Wednesday against a Colorado Supreme Court ruling that declared him ineligible for this year’s presidential elections.
The request for annulment was filed with the United States Supreme Court and refers to a December decision, in which the Colorado court concluded that Donald Trump was involved in a riot on January 6, 2021, during the attack on the Capitol, having invoked the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, to claim his ineligibility.
oh The appeal was filed by Trump’s defense. a day after a similar request was filed in the state of Maine, which he considered him equally ineligible for the Republican primaries.
The historic accusation against Donald Trump, on August 1 at the federal level and then on August 14 by the State of Georgia (southeast), for his allegedly illicit attempts to obtain the reversal of the results of the 2020 elections, opened a debate legal over his possible ineligibility, which led to appeals in several states.
The Associated Press agency recalls that Donald Trump does not need to win the state of Colorado to be nominated as a presidential candidate nor to obtain the presidency.
However, last December’s decision by the Colorado Supreme Court could lead other states to withdraw the possibility of going to the polls, especially in states where victory is mandatory.
