Azerbaijani presenter makes children sing an anti-Macron song on TV

In October, the Azerbaijani government denounced Emmanuel Macron’s statements that the country had started hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia.

Emmanuel Macron appeared on Azerbaijani television, but unexpectedly. The independent outlet Eurasianet reports that public television channel ITV broadcast, then posted on its social media on Tuesday, an excerpt showing a presenter singing an anti-Macron song, with a children’s choir in the background.

The song accuses the French president of being pro-Armenian and of having made “false promises” to Azerbaijan. The children sing “E-MMAN-U-EL” with each accusation sung. The channel has also published excerpts in recent days criticizing the interview conducted by Macron on France 2.

On October 12, Emmanuel Macron said on the public channel that “Armenia is a country with which we have a unique bond.”

“We did not disappoint them,” he added.

“Insulting” statements for Azerbaijan

Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought two wars in the last three decades. for control of Nagorno-Karabakh. the The 2020 conflict had ended through a ceasefire and mediation by Russia, which has deployed a contingent of peacekeepers to the scene.

Armenia ceded territories it had controlled for decades, and Moscow deployed some 2,000 Russian soldiers to police the fragile truce.

In September, at least 286 people died in new clashes on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

At the end of September, Emmanuel Macron called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to discuss the “many” issues that remain unresolved between the two countries. The French president then declared in October that the start of the offensive was at the initiative of Azerbaijan.

“Despite the goodwill shown by Azerbaijan”, the French president made “insulting, unacceptable, false and provocative statements”, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev denounced two days after the interview, during a political summit.

“We exercised our right to legitimate defense and restored our territorial integrity by force,” he added.
