Who will succeed Boris Johnson as UK leader? The result of the vote open to some 200,000 members of the Conservative Party, or about 0.3% of the British population, leaves little suspense: the chief of diplomacy, Liz Truss, should beat the former finance minister Rishi Sunak.
“There are all kinds of problems to solve: the cost of living, the price of energy, gasoline and food,” lists a London resident on BFMTV to list the challenges facing the likely future prime minister. For example, the inflation rate exceeds 10%. A Londoner hopes Theresa May can “rebalance the British economy”.

Boris Johnson will present his resignation to Elizabeth II on Tuesday
A woman interviewed is more pessimistic: “I don’t think the new prime minister will make things happen. Both candidates are too rich to understand what we are really going through,” she said. Tony Travers, a professor at the London School of Politics and Economics, expects a dangerous tenure for the new British chief executive.
“Boris Johnson had his own style that allowed him to find voices beyond his own party,” he recalls on BFMTV. “In 2019 he won over Labour. Can Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak do the same? I don’t think so.”
Boris Johnson will travel to Scotland on Tuesday to Balmoral, residence of Elizabeth II, to present his resignation. The Queen will also receive the new occupant of the post. She will then return to London to give a first speech outside 10 Downing Street.
