Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a training camp on Thursday for soldiers deployed in the Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow, according to images broadcast on Russian television.
It is the first time since announcing the partial mobilization of hundreds of thousands of reservists on Sept. 21 that the Russian leader has personally followed the training exercises of civilians called upon to support the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
At a firing point, lying on the ground and wearing a protective helmet, the Russian president even tried to shoot with an automatic weapon and spoke to some mobilized soldiers. One of them wished him “Good luck!” with a pat on the back.
According to Russian news agencies, President Putin attended tactical training and fire control exercises.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who also attended the visit, briefed the president on progress in training the hundreds of reservists deployed, the agencies added.
