Spain will maintain the updating of pensions indexed to inflation and the Government will approve this Tuesday the guarantee of the unemployment benefit for domestic workers, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced today.
Regarding the unemployment benefit for people who do domestic work, Sánchez has said that it is about “ending an absolutely unacceptable injustice”, responding to a call “for many years” from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and fulfilling a promise from the Spanish Government. for this term.
The leader of the Government of Spain, the socialist Pedro Sánchez, made the announcement during an initiative in the gardens of the Palacio de la Moncloa, headquarters of the Executive, in Madrid, in which he answered questions from citizens, a moment with which he intended mark the beginning of the new political year, after the summer holidays.
Sánchez guaranteed that in this legislature, which ends at the end of 2023, the Government will continue to adopt measures for “labour dignity and salary dignity”.
In this context, he reaffirmed the objective that the national minimum wage be 60% of the average wage in Spain and said that the updating of pensions will remain indexed to inflation, which has skyrocketed in recent months and in Spain is about to above 10%.
“Labor dignity” also contributes to feeding the pension system and the balance of social security, he defended, explaining that the higher the salary, the greater the discounts for the workers.
The minimum salary in Spain is 1,000 euros and the average gross salary in 2021 was 1,751 euros.
Sánchez said that “it must be recognized” that the response to the energy crisis and the current inflationary crisis, as has happened with the covid-19 pandemic, “may be perfectly different” from that given to the financial crisis, when “millions of people were condemned to poor work” and there was a “decapitalization of the labor market” with the emigration to which thousands of qualified young people were “forced”.
“Spain cannot reissue, in my opinion, these wrong policies,” he defended.
