The Spanish Civil Guard arrested 26 people in Seville, in an operation to dismantle an organization specialized in the distribution of drugs and the smuggling of tobacco in electric scooters throughout the province, reports the EFE agency today.
According to the Civil Guard, quoted by the Spanish news agency, the organization used minors to make deliveries in that means of transport and evade police controls, sending them groups of instant messages to alert them of the presence of the police.
The organization, based in the Seville towns of Pilas, Aznalcázar and Aznalcóllar, took numerous security measures and used “water carriers” or “points” to avoid police action.
The operation began in February of this year, when civil guards from the ROCA group in Sanlúcar la Mayor detected a series of crimes against people and property in Pilas, as well as several vehicles that were trying to evade police controls.
According to the Efe agency, at one of the checkpoints the driver fled and tried to run over one of the policemen, being later arrested.
Investigators discovered that the organization also had a branch in Alicante, where drug traffickers bought clonazepam, a drug that is prescribed primarily to drug addicts.
This substance was sent to Morocco – where its price doubled – and was “cooked” with hashish to make ‘karkubi’ and then introduced into Spain.
‘Karkubi’ is a new drug that poses a serious health risk by affecting the user’s central nervous system, causing hallucinations and behavioral changes.
In almost two dozen searches, in which 200 agents participated, the Civil Guard found 430 clonazepam pills, plus 200 grams of cocaine, heroin, marijuana buds, hashish, chopped tobacco and 6,700 packages of cigarettes, in addition to different weapons, precision scales, 20,000 euros in cash, vehicles and scooters.
