Lula misses the debate with Bolsonaro and privileges the campaign in the streets to win over the undecided

A week before the second round of the presidential elections in Brazil, Lula da Silva rejected the invitation of TV Record to debate with Jair Bolsonaro.

What would be the penultimate face to face before the Brazilian elections was scheduled for this morning, but it ended up becoming an interview with the Brazilian president.

Jair Bolsonaro described the opponent as a “fugitive” and again associated him with a past of “corruption” in contrast to his current government “without corruption, which defends the family and is not afraid to debate.”

In a campaign marked by exchanges of misinformation accusations between the two candidates, Jair Bolsonaro says he never attacked the PT candidate or stopped telling the truth.

“When we say that he was convicted and head of a criminal organization, it is true. When we say that the party supports gender ideology, it is true. We don’t have an attack, we just show the truth of what happened in the PT. government,” he says.

Speaking to journalists at a campaign event in São Paulo, Lula da Silva expressed his confidence in next Sunday’s victory and explained the strategy for the next seven days: conquer the undecided and abstentionists.

“We have to explain to the people what our concrete proposals are to recover the economy, recover employment, recover the purchasing power of the minimum wage.”

Lula had already stressed that he intended to dedicate this second round to contacting Brazilians in the streets and that he would only agree to participate in “one or two debates.” Without justifying why he decided to miss this morning’s debate, the former Brazilian president reinforced his criticism of the opponent.

“What is at stake right now is no longer the campaign of a man against another man, a woman against a woman, a party against a party. It is whether democracy will survive in this country or whether we will experience barbarism. of lies, genocide and lack of respect for the Brazilian people, that is what is at stake”.

The last debate before the second round of the Brazilian elections, on October 30, is scheduled for this Friday on TV Globo at 9:30 am in Brazil, 1:30 am in mainland Portugal.
