In Quebec, nurses call for an end to the “eroticization” of their profession for Halloween

As Halloween approaches, the Quebec Order of Nurses encourages “the population to abandon sexy costumes” in favor of authentic nurse uniforms, denouncing “a socially and professionally unacceptable eroticization.”

“It’s time for perceptions to change.” The “sexy” costumes of nurses for Halloween are denounced this Monday by the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ), we learned from a press release.

The OIIQ is launching a social media campaign to encourage Quebeckers (and more widely all those who dress up for Halloween, including in France) to abandon these costumes that participate in “the eroticization of nurses”.

This eroticization “devalues his profession and experience,” reads a press release posted online on Monday.

“The profession has evolved, but stereotypes persist,” laments Luc Mathieu, president of the OIIQ, quoted in the press release. “The options offered in stores or online are scary! The eroticization of the profession is socially and professionally unacceptable,” he pleads.

For “a realistic image of the profession”

“Nurses take care of our world. Let’s take care of your image”, is indicated in the video clip published by the OIIQ and seen several thousand times since the beginning of the week on social networks.

“This blow helps to initiate a change in perception, by projecting a realistic image of the profession,” indicates the OIIQ.

So, if you want to dress up as a nurse next Monday, Luc Mathieu recommends you Press wear “visors, gloves and a blouse”, while warning that revelers risk discovering “very soon that it’s hot under all this protective gear”.
