At least four people and several more were injured by gunfire on Thursday, May 31, in Minneapolis, in the US state of Minnesota, local media reported, citing police sources.
Minneapolis police said in a social media post that officers were “responding to an ongoing incident” in which six people, including two officers, were “reported injured.”
Authorities urged people to avoid the Whittier neighborhood, south of downtown Minneapolis. No further details were immediately available. Local television station KMSP, citing unnamed police sources, reported that six people – two police officers and four civilians – were injured and that one of the officers and two other people were killed.
WCCO-TV said the suspect also died and a second officer was seriously injured.
According to the Star-Tribune newspaper, a 28-year-old police officer was killed and another was seriously injured during a shootout with the suspect. Four other people were reportedly shot in an area near a residential building in the Whittier neighborhood, the newspaper added.
