Boris Johnson addressed Britain for the last time as prime minister from the steps of 10 Downing Street on Tuesday. Indeed, the time has come for him to hand over the keys to the official London residence to Liz Truss, his former Minister of Foreign Affairs and especially her successor appointed this Monday at the head of the Conservative Party and the Executive. She also assured him of her “fervent” support, before leaving the capital to fly to Scotland and Balmoral, where the transfer of power will take place under the watch of Queen Elizabeth II.
Support “at every stage”
The functions of head of the British Government of Boris Johnson come to an end after three years of negotiations around Brexit, crises and health, geopolitical and social scandals, linked in particular to his management of Covid and the alleged lightness of his behavior staff.
“I will offer this government my most fervent support,” Boris Johnson said outside 10 Dowing Street, before boarding his plane for Scotland, where he will officially tender his resignation to the monarch. “I will support Liz Truss and govern her every step of the way,” he said.
