Entrepreneur Elon Musk plans to lay off up to half of the 7,500 employees of the social network Twitter, according to people linked to the purchase of the digital company, as part of the planned cost cut, the Financial Times (FT) reported today.
As part of those plans, the billionaire plans to eliminate some 3,700 jobs from the digital company acquired for 44,000 million dollars (45,300 million euros), according to two people familiar with the project, although the exact number is subject to change.
According to the British newspaper, Musk also intends to require face-to-face work in offices starting Monday, which would reverse Twitter’s current policy, which allows employees to work from anywhere.
The layoffs could come as soon as Friday, if not sooner, according to the FT reports, adding that Musk has already made his mark on Twitter since the acquisition finalized, asking employees to work full-time on select projects.
Late last week, Musk overhauled the team, firing executives including Twitter boss Parag Agrawal while bringing a small group of trusted advisers, including his personal attorney, Alex Spiro, into the company.
