North Korea missile launch: Washington wants UN Security Council meeting

The United States has condemned recent missile launches from Pyongyang as officials and analysts have warned for months that North Korea is preparing to conduct a nuclear test.

After new provocations, the sanctions? The United States has formally requested the United Nations Security Council to meet on Friday to address the issue of North Korea, the Reuters news agency has learned.

For several days, Pyongyang has increased the launch of missiles towards the east of the Korean peninsula. Three new missiles were launched on Thursday, including an intercontinental ballistic missile that created a false alarm in Japan.

“This launch is a violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions,” Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department, wrote in a statement a few hours ago.

From this Friday?

This tension caused by Pyongyang is worrying at a time when the Americans and South Koreans are carrying out joint military exercises and the world geopolitical situation seems very unstable.

Reuters explains that Washington’s request was supported by the United Kingdom, France, Albania, Ireland and Norway.

According to information from the South Korean news agency Yonhap, the United Nations Security Council could meet this Friday at 3:00 p.m. (8:00 p.m. in Paris).
