South Korea “will not sit idly by” in the face of the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia

The United States confirmed this Wednesday, October 23, the information provided by South Korea about the deployment of 3,000 North Korean soldiers in eastern Russia “between early and mid-October.”

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol stated this Thursday that his country “will not sit idly by” in the face of the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia, which he also described as “a provocation that threatens global security.”

“South Korea will not sit idly by on this,” Yoon Suk Yeol said after speaking with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

The two leaders believe this deployment is “a provocation that threatens global security beyond the Korean Peninsula and Europe,” Yoon Suk Yeo added.

3,000 North Korean soldiers

This Wednesday, Washington confirmed the information provided by South Korea about the deployment of 3,000 North Korean troops in eastern Russia “between early and mid-October.”

“We believe these soldiers traveled by boat from the Wonsan region of North Korea to Vladivostok, Russia, and arrived at several Russian military training sites in eastern Russia, where they are currently receiving training,” the House spokesman said. Blanca, John Kirby.

Pyongyang calls it “unfounded rumor”

The United States does not know whether it will fight alongside the Russian military, he said, although he called it a “very worrying possibility.”

For its part, North Korea has denied providing Russia with forces for its offensive in Ukraine, with a Pyongyang representative at the UN calling it a “baseless rumour.”

After more than two and a half years of war, Ukraine finds itself in a critical military situation: its forces withdraw for months on the eastern front and Russia continues to bomb its cities due to lack of sufficient anti-aircraft defenses.
