The President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, was satisfied, this Friday at the Luso-Spanish Summit, with the union that Spain and Portugal have shown in times of crisis. First with the pandemic and, currently, with the effects of the war in Ukraine.
“I am convinced that relations between Spain and Portugal are going through an exceptional moment. We look at Portugal with the conviction that we share a whole series of interests that redound to the benefit of both societies. I am very proud of all the decisions that the two countries are taking at a European and international level,” said Pedro Sánchez.
Regarding the war, the Spanish head of state recalled that both Portugal and Spain reinforced their humanitarian commitment to Ukraine.
“We will do everything possible so that this crisis does not translate into a crisis of poverty in other parts of the world, we want to be more and more present in key scenarios. 500 years ago, Spain and Portugal opened Europe to the world. very productive summit represents yet another step towards prosperity between our societies. I show my great satisfaction in this page of friendship that we are writing”, guaranteed the President of Spain.
At this summit, the two countries focused on innovation and science, visiting laboratories in the north of the country, such as the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory.
“I already told António that I was very surprised to see the capacity and potential that this laboratory has in terms of research and science. It will allow and guarantee that the development of nanotechnology benefits both societies. Research in Iberian science and has people from other nations, we are committed to creating synergies, we signed two memorandums of understanding”, he added.
