At least 26 people survived the plane crash in Tanzania

At least 26 people were rescued after a plane from the Tanzanian airline Precision Air crashed today in Lake Victoria, in the northwest of the country, with 43 people on board, local sources announced.

Speaking to reporters, the head of the Kagera (north-west) region, Albert Chalamila, said that rescue operations are continuing after the accident that occurred this morning, according to Tanzanian national broadcaster TBC.

So far the number of deaths has not been confirmed.

Previously, the Europa Press agency had announced that 52 people were on board, 49 passengers and three crew members.

The ATR 42-500 model plane, which was traveling from Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar Es Salaam to Bukoba via Mwanza, crashed into the lake shortly before attempting to land at Bukoba airport, according to preliminary reports from security forces. safety, due to heavy rain and strong winds.

The country’s president, Samia Suluhu, is already aware of the incident.

“I send my condolences to everyone affected by this accident. We will remain calm as the rescue operation continues and ask God to help us,” Suluhu said on his Twitter account.
