The Spanish authorities suspect that the driver who fatally ran over four people this morning in Torrejón de Ardoz, on the outskirts of Madrid, is a Portuguese citizen, who has already been arrested.
The 35-year-old Portuguese citizen was arrested a few dozen kilometers from the place of the outrage, along with two children, aged 16 and 15, who fled after the event, which is believed to have been intentional, according to reports from various Spanish media.
The Spanish press assures that the authorities continue to persecute a nephew of the driver, who fled on foot, abandoning the vehicle, where banknotes worth several thousand euros were found under the driver’s seat.
When found, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the hit-and-run revealed multiple bloodstains and was severely damaged.
Spanish media report that the hit-and-run was intentional, as it occurred after violent physical confrontations outside a restaurant where some 200 people were taking part in a gypsy wedding.
A 70-year-old woman and three men, 40, 60 and 17 years old, died at the scene due to fractures and polytrauma, they indicated.
Emergency medical teams from the Red Cross, a municipal ambulance and elements of Civil Protection, who attended the scene, provided assistance to four seriously injured: two women, aged 31 and 30, and two men, aged 50 and 43, all transferred to different nearby hospitals.
The collision, which occurred at 00:40 a.m. (01:40 a.m. in Lisbon), also caused “potentially serious” injuries, according to the SUMMA112 emergency medical teams, to two men, aged 21 and 50, taken to hospital of Torrejon.
Two other people, a 20-year-old man with an open fracture, were transferred to the Príncipe de Asturias Hospital in Alcalá de Henares, and a 17-year-old woman with multiple contusions, who was discharged from the accident site, were considered minor injuries.
