Former US President Donald Trump, who has mentioned the possibility of a new White House bid, promised to make “a big announcement” on November 15.
“In 2024 we will reclaim our magnificent White House,” Trump said Monday night in a nearly two-hour speech during a campaign rally in the Midwestern state of Ohio.
“We were a great nation and we will be a great nation again,” said the Republican, who painted an extremely bleak picture of the country under incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden.
A country where rising prices “strangle families,” where “violent crime is out of control” and where the far left “indoctrinates our children,” the 76-year-old Trump said.
“There is only one solution to end this madness,” defended the businessman. “If you want to end the destruction of our country and save the American dream, you must vote Republican tomorrow. [hoje]”, said.
“We don’t want anything to diminish the importance of tomorrow [hoje]Trump said, referring to the midterm elections, in which Republicans are favorites to win power in both houses of the US Parliament, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
According to the newspaper ‘Politico’, many Republicans have asked the former president to wait for the elections, in which the entire House of Representatives and a third of the Senate will be renewed, as well as the governors of 36 states and three territories.
The weighted average of polls conducted by the FiveThirtyEight website indicates that Republicans have a 55% chance of winning power in the Senate and an 84% chance of winning back the House of Representatives.
“For our country to be successful, safe and glorious, it is very likely that it will. [concorrer à Casa de Branca] again,” the Republican mogul said at a Nov. 4 rally in support of Sen. Chuck Grassley.
At that rally, Trump reiterated his baseless claims that 2020, the year Democrat Joe Biden won the White House, was the real winner.
Three days later, in another campaign action in Florida, in support of Senator Marco Rubio, he again left signs that he intends to run for office in 2024, without specifying the possible date.
“Stay tuned,” he said simply.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre declined to comment on this possible announcement on Monday.
“It’s none of our business. What the former president does or doesn’t do is not something we’re focused on here,” he told a news conference.
