Santos Silva wants decisions to be made to meet the environmental goals of the Paris Agreement

The President of the Assembly of the Republic considered it essential that the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which begins this Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, takes decisions to comply with the Paris Agreement.

This position was conveyed to Augusto Santos Silva’s account on the social network Twitter, in a message in which he also emphasized the presence at the climate summit of a “Portuguese multi-party parliamentary delegation”.

“We are waiting for decisions: we need to do much more to fulfill the Paris Agreement” [de 2015] and support the most vulnerable countries,” wrote the former Minister of State and Foreign Affairs.

Prime Minister António Costa arrives this Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), with an agenda devoted to combating drought, energy transition policies and green hydrogen.

António Costa will be in this touristic city of Sinai, on the Red Sea, accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, Duarte Cordeiro, with his keynote speech for the COP27 scheduled for Tuesday.

According to a government source, the prime minister will attend the opening session of the COP27 Leaders Summit on Monday and then attend the roundtable on “Just Transition”, which will discuss the social impact of government policies. .

Next, the leader of the executive branch will be present at the launch of the International Alliance for Resilience in the face of Drought (IDRA) – an initiative of Senegal and the President of the Spanish government Pedro Sánchez.

Political decision-makers, academics and non-governmental organizations will meet between this Sunday and the 18th at COP27. This conference will be attended by policy makers representing more than two hundred countries.
