The Federal Police of the United States (FBI) discovered during raids carried out in the house of former President Donald Trump, in Florida, a document that describes the military defenses of a foreign government, reported this Wednesday the washington post newspaper.
The document was found in the residence and private club of the former Republican president in Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, in the center of the Atlantic coast of Florida, last August, the American newspaper said, citing as sources people close to the case.
For the newspaper, this discovery confirms the concerns that existed in the US information services about classified material that was supposedly hidden on Trump’s property.
Some of the seized documents detail top-secret US operations that, in particular, many of the country’s top national security officials were unaware of.
Only the President, some members of his cabinet or an official close to that body could authorize other government officials to access the details of these secret programs, according to the same sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Documents about these highly secret operations require special permits, and some of them were accessible to a limited number of people, kept under lock and key, often in a secure compartmentalized information facility, and with a control officer assigned to monitor their location.
However, those documents were stored at Mar-a-Lago “in uncertain security for more than 18 months” after Trump left the White House, The Washington Post said.
After months of trying, according to government court documents, the FBI recovered more than 300 sensitive documents at Mar-a-Lago this year: 184 in a set of 15 boxes sent to the National Archives and Records Administration in January, another 38 turned over by a Trump attorney to investigators in June and more than 100 additional documents uncovered in a court-approved search on Aug. 1.
It was in this latest batch of recovered government secrets, according to the sources, that information about a foreign government’s nuclear defense readiness was found.
The sources did not identify the foreign government in question, say where the document was found at Mar-a-Lago, or provide additional details about one of the most sensitive national security investigations ever conducted by the Justice Department.
The Washington Post recalled that it had previously reported that FBI agents who searched Trump’s home were looking, in part, for classified documents related to nuclear weapons.
After this information was released, Trump compared it on social media to a series of previous investigations by US authorities into his conduct.
> “Nuclear weapons issue is a hoax, so is Russia, Russia was a hoax, the two impeachments were a hoax, the Mueller investigation was a hoax and more. Same despicable people involved,” Trump wrote, and then suggested that FBI agents may have planted evidence against him.
The US government has repeatedly demanded that Trump, if he had taken confidential documents from the White House, hand them over, but the former president’s team responded evasively.
