The Mozambican president announces the start of gas exports in the Rovuma basin

The export of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the Rovuma basin, in the Coral Sul Project, in Mozambique, began this Sunday, announced Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi.

“Today, Mozambique enters the annals of world history as one of the countries that exports liquefied natural gas, which, in addition to representing an alternative source of supply, contributes greatly to the energy security of the countries with the highest consumption,” he declared. Filipe Nyusi, in a statement to the nation.

Of the three liquefied natural gas projects approved for the northern region of Mozambique, the Coral Sul platform, on the high seas, far from the armed violence in Cabo Delgado, was in charge of exporting the reserves for the first time, which will leave on the Freighter British sponsor, which is already in Mozambican territory.

The platform led by the Italian oil company Eni will produce 3.4 million tons per year. The Coral Sul project consists of the construction of a floating unit for the liquefaction of natural gas (FLNG), being the first development project related to the discoveries made in Area 4 in the Rovuma basin, in Mozambique.

Galp owns a 10% stake in the Area 4 development consortium. Eni is the operator with an indirect 50% stake, through Eni East Africa, which owns a 70% stake in Area 4.

Kogas and ENH each have a 10% interest in the project, while China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has an indirect 20% interest through Eni East Africa.
