Japan: The main Yakuza group undertakes to end the intestine wars

The Yamaguchi-Gumi group said on Thursday, April 10, wanting to end the bloody “internal disputes.” A public speech considered “vague” by the Japanese authorities.

The largest Yakuza group in Japan has promised to write with the authorities to end the bloody conflicts that oppose the dissident factions, police told AFP this Thursday, April 10.

The members of Yamaguchi-Gumi, the main organization of crimes organized in the country, went to the commission of the Hyogo region on Monday (center of the country) to present a letter detailing that the group will end all the internal disputes “with the promise of” not creating problems, “said a regional police officer of the AFP.

Under reinforced surveillance

The Yamaguchi-Gumi fought bloody wars against other Yakuza groups formed by former members who separated in 2015.

However, the Hyogo police officer declared that the plans of the dissident groups remained vague, and that the investigators were monitoring the situation, because the Yamaguchi-Gumi commitment could only be a unilateral statement.

The number of members of the Japanese underworld, the Yakuzas, reached a new minimum of 18,800 people in 2024, after declines, falling for the first time below the 20,000 members, in particular due to a stricter repression, according to recent police data.
