Lithuania asks to reinforce the eastern flank of NATO after the impact of a missile in Poland

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, asked this Wednesday to strengthen the defense of Poland’s border with Ukraine and, by extension, the entire eastern flank of NATO, after a Polish town was hit by a Russian-made missile.

“Lithuania will request a reinforcement of NATO support for the defense of the Polish border with Ukraine,” said Nausedas, after the fall of a missile on Tuesday in a town on the Polish border, which resulted in the death of two people. , and whose origin has not yet been determined.

“I hope that at the NATO summit next year in Vilnius we can move in this direction,” stressed the Lithuanian president.

The three Baltic countries, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, already expressed on Tuesday night their full solidarity with Poland and their support for “any action that Poland deems appropriate”, according to the words of the Latvian Foreign Minister, Edgards Rinkevics.

The Baltic countries, which are awaiting the results of the investigations into the incident, agreed that Russia is directly or indirectly responsible, given the almost nine months of war against Ukraine.

Russia has denied any responsibility for the incident.

If the missile is confirmed to have been fired by Russia, it would be the first strike against a NATO country since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
