Iran is trying to “kidnap or kill” opponents of the regime in the UK

The director of the British foreign intelligence agency MI5, Ken McCallum, denounced this Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran tries to “kidnap or kill” Britons whom it considers “enemies of the regime”, pointing to the existence of “direct threats”. .

“Ultimately this includes the ambition to kidnap or even kill British or UK residents perceived as enemies of the regime,” Ken McCallum stressed during a speech at MI5 headquarters in London.

The British agency’s warnings come after the UK government last week accused Iran of making death threats against UK-based journalists.

London’s Persian-language television channel Iran International reported that two of its journalists working in the UK have received death threats from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (Tehran’s ideological army).

Iran International covers the protests that broke out in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16, three days after she was detained in Tehran by the so-called “customs police”, who accused her of violating the strict dress code. she “opened the way” for these types of attacks.

The Iranian authorities have denounced these protests as “riots” encouraged by Western countries, especially the United States, Iran’s enemy.

Dozens of people, mainly protesters but also members of the security forces, have been killed since the protests began, according to the Iranian authorities, who do not offer a precise or general estimate.

The protests have been repressed with blood and dozens of journalists have been arrested.

According to various international organizations, the Iranian authorities have already killed more than 300 people in their repression of this movement.

On Friday, the British police announced that they had launched a “protection plan” for an Iranian wrestling champion based in Scotland, Melika Balali, who also received threats, produced, according to the athlete, by the Iranian authorities.
