“Liberated from their functions.” The administration of President Donald Trump announced on Monday, April 28 that he dismissed the authors of a scientific report used for more than 25 years to develop the response policies to global warming in the United States.
In an email aimed at taxpayers to the sixth national climate evaluation (NCA6), the Federal Government announces that the “scope” of the report is “reevaluated” and “release from their functions.”
Returned “without reason”
This decision follows the mass dismissals that occurred in early April in the American Climate Change Research Program (USGCRP), the federal organization responsible for supervising this report that, by law, must be given to Congress and the President.
Hundreds of researchers participate in the development of this document on the impact of climate change in all areas, in principle published every five years. The next edition was scheduled for 2027.
Although they are not mandatory, these reports are essential tools for legislators, companies and local governments in planning climate resilience.
“Today, the Trump Administration is crazy an American and complete American scientific report in a crazy way when returning the climate by returning its authors for no reason,” protested in a press release, Rachel Cleetus, author of the chapter of the report that deals with the impact of warming on the coast.
“Trying to bury this report will not change the scientific facts, but without this information, our country is likely to navigate blindly in a more dangerous world for climate change caused by humans,” he denounced.
Since his return to power in January, Donald Trump has embarked on an aggressive review of federal institutions, dismissing thousands of public officials, including climate climate and public health experts.
