Ukraine and his European supporters met this Friday, May 9 in Lviv to approve the creation of a special court responsible for judging the “crimes of aggression” committed by Russia since their invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The Ukrainian prime minister, Denys Chmygal, welcomed the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas to Lviv, as well as delegations from 35 European countries, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
kyiv hopes that the Special Court is supposed to judge Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, allow Vladimir Putin to see the court. “For us, the most important thing is to preserve the principle of the inevitability of punishment for all, including (…) Russian president,” said Andriï Sybiga. “This court is being configured to pronounce appropriate sentences in the future,” he added.
The impotent ICC to judge Russia
“There will be no impunity,” Kaja Kallas said Thursday in front of the press. This symbolic trip to Ukraine aims to remember that “all who really support peace cannot be next to (Russian president Vladimir) Putin,” he said.
This political green light occurs due to a displacement of the EU foreign ministers, when Russia Celle in Moscow, with large fanfare, victory against Nazi Germany in 1945. Vladimir “Putin can be considered the so -called winner, but it is not allowed to monopolize the victory,” Andriï Sibyga launched.
The Special Court of “Crimes of Aggression” will work together with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has already issued international arrest orders against several Russian leaders, including Vladimir Putin. However, it is helpless to judge Russia for “attack attacks”, hence the idea of creating this special court, launched shortly after the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
The work for its creation has accelerated since the return of Donald Trump to the White House and the fear that immunity will be granted to Vladimir Putin and other Russian leaders, in case of a peace agreement.
