The Ukrainian president said Thursday night that more than 10 million of his compatriots were without power, while the country was attacked again by Russian missiles.
“Currently, more than ten million Ukrainians do not have electricity,” especially in the kyiv region, Volodymyr Zelensky said during his televised speech.
The situation is even more problematic as winter begins to settle in the country. A first carpet of snow was also observed on Thursday morning in Kyiv.
The repetition of these attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since October regularly deprives millions of Ukrainians of electricity and water.
National electricity operator Ukrenergo announced the extension of power cuts for the day due to the “worsening situation”.
“Due to a sharp cooling, electricity consumption increased in the regions of Ukraine”, which “further complicated the already difficult situation in the electrical system”, which led to “wider restrictions” on electricity consumption in across the country, Ukrenergo said.
