Three weeks lost in the middle of the Californian forest. This is the story of Tiffany Slaton, a 28 -year -old American, who survived for 24 days, lost in the mountains of Sierra Nevada (California), feeding on berries and drinking melted snow.
During a press conference with the Sheriff of Fresno County, this Friday, May 16, he told his terrible experience, two days after being found in a cabin in the forest 32 kilometers from the place where they had last seen her.
On April 20, when he went to a solo camp near The Shaver and Huntington Lakes, Tiffany Slaton fell from a cliff, reports the Associated Press news agency. It will be injured in the leg, first tried to ask for help, but without success.
“I ended up undertaking this very long and difficult trip that I kept in a newspaper to try to stay healthy and finally managed to get to civilization,” he said.

During his trip, Tiffany Slaton endured 13 snow storms and rose 3,300 meters above sea level, said American Television NBC News. In addition to having lost five kilos, she also lost the store and sleeping bags, and was forced to leave her bike at the beginning of the road. “The worst thing you can do in an emergency situation is to panic,” said Tiffany Slaton on Friday.
Without news for nine days, their parents gave the alert on April 29. The authorities immediately initiated the investigation, with the support of volunteers, to try to find it. A perimeter of 1,500 square kilometers has been cleared, mobilizing a helicopter.
“It is really an incredible story of perseverance, determination and survival,” said the Sheriff of Fresno County, John Zanoni.
When Tiffany Slaton first saw the cabin in which he found shelter, in Vermilion Valley Resort, he first believed in hallucination, says NBC News. According to the authorities, the host leaves access to his home in case they need a shelter.
Tiffany Slaton was found on Wednesday, the day before his 28 anniversary, by the owner of the complex, Christopher Gutiérrez. “It was the thirteenth snowstorm that was experiencing, and it would be the last,” Slaton said. “If I hadn’t come that day, they would have found my body there.”
“He came out without saying a word, he simply ran to me and all he wanted was a hug. And it was a rather surreal moment,” said Christopher Gutiérrez, cited by NBC News.
