“Hobby to kill babies”: the head of the Israeli left cause controversy when attacking the government

The leader of the Israeli left who has four deputies in Parliament, Yaïr Golan, arouses controversy for having comments to the Vitriolo who denounces the intensification of the military offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“A healthy country does not have the hobby to kill babies.”

Asked by a journalist on public radio, this former Israeli army general said that his country was “on the road to become a state of Paria among nations” stating that the war in the Gaza Strip was carried out “for the benefit of political objectives.”

“A healthy country does not make war against civilians, it does not have the hobby to kill babies, and it is not intended to expel populations,” said Yaïr Golan, who directs the coalition of “Democrats”, in an allusion to the “voluntary emigration” of the Palestinians of Gaza with the support of the government.

“There are no limits to moral decline,” the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu immediately, accusing Yaïr Golan of “anti -Semitic slander (…) against the soldiers of the Israeli army.”

Ask for the opening of an investigation for hatred incitement

Several government ministers, one of the most correct in the history of Israel, have requested the opening of an investigation for hatred incitement.

“Yaïr Golan knowingly,” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich launched, while another minister from afar, Itamar Ben Gvir, judges that Yaïr Golan has for “Hobby” the “anti -Semitic defamations.”

“Golan’s words will not stop provoking the fire of global anti -Semitism, at a time when Israel is fighting for his survival,” added Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.

The centrist Yaïr Lapid, head of the first opposition party, also condemned the words of Yaïr Golan, former deputy director of Cabinet. “Our combatants are heroes and defend our lives. Admit that they kill children to have fun is false and play the game of our enemies,” he wrote in X.

Yaïr Golan is known in Israel for the characteristics of his long military career, but the political parties with which he has joined has always been a minority in Parliament. His group “The Democrats” currently has four deputies within the Knéset.

Criticism of Benjamin Netanyahu for years, he accused him of wanting to carry out “an endless war” in the first months that followed the outbreak of the war for the unprecedented attack of the Islamist Palestinian Movement Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023.
