A 36 -year -old man was sentenced on Tuesday, May 27 to 12 years in prison for having fatally cut a three -year -old girl in Manchester, when he was under the influence of cocaine. As Sky News relates, the events date back to February 22, while Rawal Rehman was driving his truck.
Having not respected the signage, he had collided with a tram before reaching the sidewalk where the girl, Louisa Palmisano, in the company of her parents. Transported to the hospital, the girl could not be saved.
The driver had fled before being arrested two days later thanks to the documents he had left in the vehicle. During his interrogation, he had denied any dangerous conduct, but he had ended up declaring himself guilty of the court.
“Selfish acts”
According to the accusation, the man, who had consumed “at least 20 lines” of cocaine in seven hours “could not drive” during the deadly collision. The main prosecutor estimated at the hearing that he had “chosen recklessly to take the flyer of his truck after consuming cocaine”, while the driver was not at first “willing to deal with the consequences of his selfish acts.”
“Today, our thoughts go to the Lulu family and we hope that the pronounced prayer will give you some comfort when they cry the tragic loss of their little girl,” added the prosecutor.
In a declaration read in the Court, the girl’s family explained that nothing could “fill the void left by their absence.” “Lulu was our only son and the center of our world (…) with only three years, brought more light and love than we would have believed possible,” they wrote.
In addition to criminal imprisonment, Rawal Rehman reduced his driver’s license for almost 14 years.
