Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov was hospitalized today “with health problems” after arriving in Bali, where he will participate in the G20 summit, Indonesian officials said.
Three official Indonesian sources told the Associated Press (AP) that the Russian foreign minister was immediately treated for “a heart problem” where he was staying in Bali.
The Russian embassy in Jakarta declined to comment.
The State Department has already denied the information to Reuters. “It is the height of falsehood,” said spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who shared a video of Lavrov sitting outside in a courtyard in shorts and T-shirt reading documents.
In these images, Lavrov himself says that he is fine and he remembers that the West has been saying for ten years that Putin is sick. “This is a kind of game that is not new in politics,” said 72-year-old Lavrov with a wry smile. “Western journalists should be more truthful – they should write the truth.”

However, an official source from the Indonesian Ministry of Health confirmed that Lavrov underwent two tests, which showed that he is in good health. “He is in good health. He came to the hospital after arriving in Bali to check his health,” Sunarto, a health ministry official, told AFP. “He returned to the hospital on Monday morning and thank God he is stable,” he stressed.
A spokesperson for Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, Bali, said a delegation arrived at the hospital in high security but was not authorized to disclose the identity or condition of the person involved.
