On the eve of his 90th birthday, Dalai Lama dreams of living “still 30 or 40 years”

Near its 90th anniversary, Dalai Lama said he would like to live “another 30 or 40” more, this Saturday, July 5.

On the eve of its 90th anniversary, Dalai Lama expressed this Saturday, July 5, his dream of living “another 30 or 40 years”, during a prayer with thousands of faithful to McLeod Ganj, in the firuses of the Indian Himalayas. The spiritual leader of the Tibetan community, who confirmed on Wednesday that a successor would be well designated at his death, will see a week of celebrations in his honor on Sunday, with his first day as not agenario.

Meanwhile, thousands of Tenzin Gyatso (his civil name) resonated on Saturdays and Cors in the monastery where he lives in exile. “Until then, I have done my best and (…) I hope to live another 30 or 40 years, continuing to serve sensitive beings and Dharma (the teachings, the editor’s note) of Buddha,” he said, wrapped in his traditional Burgundy dress and his yellow chal.

Born on July 6, 1935, Tenzin Gyatso became since the two years in the 14th Dalai Lama, duly identified by the Buddhist tradition as the reincarnation of his predecessor. He spent most of his time to McLeod Ganj from his flight from Lhassa, “his capital” and Chinese repression in 1959.

China is discussing the appointment of the future Dalai Lama

China, who invaded Tibet in 1950 and then turned it into one of its provinces, demanded that it could approve the name of the future Dalai Lama, which greatly worries many tibetans exiled as their guide.

“The responsibility (of the appointment of a successor, note of the editor) will be based exclusively on the members of the Ganden Phodrang Trust, the Office of Holiness Le Dalai Lama,” said Tenzin Gyatso. “No one else has the authority required to mix with this question.”

His successor will necessarily be “born in the free world,” he promised publicly, saying that he had received many requests in favor of a continuation of the “reincarnation cycle.”

Considered a dangerous separatist of Beijing, the current Dalai Lama, winner in 1989 of the Nobel Peace Prize, embodies the struggle for the freedom of Tibet worldwide, a vast territory of the Himalayas of a size comparable to that of South Africa. “The desire shared by all, including the Tibetan people, is to avoid suffering and know happiness,” he said.
