“How can we negotiate with a crocodile when it is biting our leg and its goal is to devour our entire body?” he questioned, speaking to CNN Portugal in Lisbon on Monday.
Boris argued that there is only one way to end the conflict: “Putin must fail and Ukraine must win. Ukrainians can, must and will win because there is simply no alternative.”
For that, he defends, it is necessary to continue supporting Ukraine “economically, diplomatically and militarily” and even redouble that support. The former British Prime Minister thanked António Costa and the Portuguese Government for “what they are doing” in this regard.
Boris Johnson also revealed a conversation he had with the Russian president in which he believes he realizes the real motivation for the war in Ukraine: Vladimir Putin “is the new Peter the Great. He invaded Ukraine because he thought it would make it more popular.” , because he was deceived and because he had no one to confront him “.
On the other hand, the British do not believe that the Russian president is capable of using nuclear weapons because “it would terrify the population itself” and “make it leave the club of civilized countries”, further isolating Russia from the rest of the world. .
