Thirteen people were killed and another twenty injured when a bus transported to the workers of a mine fell into a ravine, this Monday, July 21 at dawn, in the Iakoutie region, in the distant Russian East, the authorities of this region announced.
The driver would have lost control of the vehicle, which left the road before falling into a depth of 25 meters, local officials also said. The accident occurred around 3:20 am (8:20 pm Paris time), said the Regional Interior Ministry.
Insufficient safety standards
The images published by the authorities show that the bus returned near a muddy water pond, its wheels pointing to the sky, as well as a distorted metal barrier along the road over the ravine.
“The traffic accident occurred in the industrial and processing factory of the Denisovsky treatment and treatment process,” added the ministry.
This installation specializes in the extraction and treatment of coal. The investigators opened a criminal negligence procedure. Industrial accidents are frequent in Russia, surveys that often imply insufficient safety standards.
