A traveler train derailed at the end of the day this Sunday, July 27 at Baden-Wurtemberg in Germany, causing the death of three people. A drama, several authorities of which give thunderstorms such as the main cause.
• Three dead, including the driver
The regional train that connects Sigmaringen to ULM transported one hundred people during the derailment of two of its cars. The accident took place near Riedlingen around 6:10 pm
The German police told AFP that three people died. Among them, the train driver and a personnel member on board. At least 41 people were also injured, some of which seriously.
The rescue intervention was long and dangerous due to the difficult place for access to the accident. The latter took several hours to evacuate the victims, before trying to release the cars of the train overturned to the side.
According to the German media, they had to travel a long distance to get to the site. Helicopters have also mobilized to evacuate the injured to surrounding hospitals.
• A landslide involved
An investigation is being carried out to determine the causes of the fatal accident. According to the first elements of the investigation, an important storm could be the cause of train derailment, while a landslide occurred shortly before the train.
“There have been strong rains here, so we cannot exclude that the strong precipitation and a landslide that resulted in the origin of the accident,” said Thomas Strobl, Interior Minister of Baden-Wurtemberg, instead of the accident.
Police and local justice have also pointed out this landslide due to bad weather.
“According to the first hypotheses, the heavy rains that fell in the accident area would have caused overflow of a sewer,” said ULM police and Ravensburg prosecutors in a joint statement.
• The chancellor “deeply annoying”
The Deutsche Bahn Railway Company (DB), as soon as the accident was announced, presented their condolences to the victims and their families. She has established a free special help number for people affected by train derailment.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he was “deeply annoying” and was surprised, while expressing his condolences. “We regret the victims,” he wrote.
The traffic was interrupted on Sunday night in a part of about 40 kilometers. Traffic is always suspended in the affected rail line. Cleaning work should begin this Tuesday, July 29.
• Infrastructure obsolescence denounced
The accident occurred, while German railway facilities are already very marked due to their ruin, and trains accumulate throughout the country.
Three years ago, the derailment of a regional train had killed four dead and thirty injured in the Alpes Bávaros. A survey aimed at three employees of the Deutsche Bahn railway company had subsequently opened for suspicion of negligence.
The conservative government has pledged to invest several hundred one billion euros in the coming years in the network, in particular to modernize it.
In 1998, Germany experienced its most deadly rail accident, with 101 people killed during the derailment of a high -speed train in eschere.
