A newborn baby died on Wednesday after a Russian strike hit a maternity hospital in the Zaporizhia region of southern Ukraine.
“The two-story building of the maternity hospital was destroyed as a result of a rocket attack in the city of Vilnyansk in the Zaporizhia region,” the Ukrainian emergency services said, quoted by the AFP news agency, adding that inside the maternity hospital In addition to the newborn, there was still “a woman in labor and a doctor.”
“As a result of the attack, a newborn baby died, the woman and the doctor were rescued from the rubble,” they added.
According to preliminary information, no one else was trapped under the rubble.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of “terror and death”, referring directly to the attack that hit the maternity hospital.
“The enemy has once again decided to achieve through terror and murder what it has not been able to do in nine months” since the February 24 invasion, Zelensky said.
