The dean of the world, the British Ethel Caterham, celebrates this 116th birthday this Thursday, August 21, announced the Retiro House in which he lives.
Born on August 21, 1909 in a village in Hampshire, in southern England, Ethel Caterham became Dean of Humanity in early May after the death of the Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas at the age of 116. He lives in a retirement house in Surrey, a county to southern London.
“Ethel has once again chosen interviews, preferring to spend the day in silence with his family so he can enjoy it at his own pace,” said a spokesman for the Retiro House.
The oldest British of all time
The Supercintenary and his family are “grateful for all the kind messages and the interest shown in it,” said the same source.
Ethel Caterham is the last living subject of King Eduardo VII, whose reign ended in 1910. He is also the oldest British of all time, according to the oldest database in Great Britain.
Last year, he received a letter from King Carlos III congratulating her for having reached this “remarkable stage.”
