Donald Trump will sign a decree this Friday, September 5, so the United States Ministry of Defense is also called the Ministry of War, as he had recently promised, the White House announced.
Donald Trump must sign “a decree aimed at restoring the historical name of the ‘Ministry of War’ as the second name of the Ministry of Defense,” said the White House in a document on Thursday.
If it is for the moment an additional name, the decree orders Minister Pete Hegseth to take all measures, in particular of the Legislative Power, to “change the name permanently of the United States Ministry of Defense in the Ministry of War,” said the White House.
“We also want to be offensive”
At the end of August, the president of the United States had expressed this project that would restore a denomination that existed from 1789 to 1949. “Defense, is too defensive, and we also want to be offensive,” he told the press, suggesting that he would not need a vote of the Congress to proceed to change.
“The president believes that this ministry should bear a name that reflects its unmatched power and its ability to protect national interests,” said the White House, the United States with the world’s largest army.
According to her, it is about reigning “peace by force” and ensuring that “the world respects the United States again”, assuming the usual discourse of Donald Trump in international relations.
From his return to the White House in January, the latter mobilized the army to impose a spectacular power image, of a rare military parade on his birthday to the deployment of the National Guard in the cities led by his opponents, going through an exceptional attack against a boat in the Caribbean as part of the fight against the naroctruido.
Democratic opponents regularly denounce this appeal to the army, which they associate with what they consider an authoritarian drift of power under President Trump.
